Adult Day Care is becoming increasingly important as people choose to age in a comfortable place and within their community.

Adult day care centers or senior activity centers can provide daily planned programs that include a variety of social, health and support services in a comfortable, protective setting during daytime hours. Enjoying daily activities and the company of others is advantageous for seniors and those with disabilities, as when their needs and abilities advance, they will be adjusted to their environment and more than likely will feel comforted and cared for. These centers can tackle issues such as sharpening mental alertness and improving socialization skills.

Considering the use of adult day care is important when a prospective member:

  • Can no longer manage their own daily activities and cannot be safely left alone.
  • Is anxious or depressed and needs social and emotional support; especially when left alone.
  • Finds difficulty focusing on simlpe activities; reading, having conversation or watching television.
  • Is usually alone during most of the day and craves peer interaction.
  • Requires daily attention that may create your own frustration, anxiety or compromised health.

As a caregiver, there are also other factors that determine when you decide adult day care is the right choice for your loved one. You may need care and supervision while working or some free time to run errands and tend to other personal responsibilities. We recommend taking some specifics into consideration when choosing the right center:

  • Are there daily social activities. If so are they specified to you?
  • Is it a safe and comfortable environment?
  • Are meals and nutrition provided?
  • Is transportation provided?
  • Does staff help with personal care and grooming?
  • Do they administer medication or provide supervision?

Recommendations from healthcare providers, friends and other trusted individuals can point you in the right direction. Do a little research and don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to help in making a decision. Most adult day centers offer an open house periodically throughout the year or you can schedule a visit and consultation with one of the staff to address any concerns.

There are a variety of ways to pay for adult day services. In most states, Medicaid may cover all or some of the costs if your loved one is eligible. At Right Choice Adult Care & Activity Center we want to make it easy for you to make the right decision for your lover one.
