With an increased need for adult day care centers in Florida, it is apparent that the use of adult day care centers are growing like the rest of the senior care industry.

For those looking into adult day care it is important to research and ask questions about the types of services they offer. For instance, there are centers that focus on certain areas, like Alzheimer’s and dementia or Veterans, which may impact the price.

The average cost of adult day care varies in each state and the most common question is – who is going to pay for it? There are two ways of answering this question. On a good note, Medicaid will pay for this service, however the individual needs to qualify for it in Florida and meet certain criteria. On another note, even though Medicare covers most elderly Floridians, they will not pay for adult day care. But, adult day care is still great as penny-for-penny, it is more affordable and economical than in-home care.

Adult day care is defined as daytime supervision of individuals requiring assistance in a group environment at a center. There are three types of adult day care and it is important to understand what best fits your loved one’s needs prior to committing to one, as well as pricing will vary.

Understanding the Types of Adult Day Care

Social Adult Day Care – provides non-medical supervision and focuses on socialization, companionship, activities and nutritious meals.

Adult Day Health Care – also called ADHC, provides trained nurses on staff and in addition to what a regular social adult day care will offer, may provide speech and occupational therapies, medication administration and other specialized supervision.

Specialized Adult Day Care – this more specialized center may focus on Alzheimer’s patients, though it may be available to most individuals with different forms of dementia. In this day care, the focus is key to prevent behavioral challenges, wandering and injury.
